Unfurl

Hello Madison 52 readers! We are nearly three months into 2019 and the first day of spring is a week away. How are your New Year’s resolutions going?  If you started the year with intentions of bettering your health in any manner, check out how Unfurl in Madison can support you as you crush those New Year’s goals. Owner, Laura Novak, is passionate about offering her clients assistance on their path to increased wellness.  Read on to learn more about the various ways she helps clients reach wellness goals.

What products and services do you offer? We offer bodywork and wellness services. This includes hands-on bodywork, assessment of structure, wellness coaching, and corrective exercise programming. Our bodywork sessions include a personalized combinations of massage techniques including neuromuscular, deep tissue, trigger point, Tui Na, and more.

What made you want to be a business owner, specifically in your area of expertise? Offering massage therapy and bodywork as part of a person’s wellness and healthcare is something that is not yet offered within western medicine settings. When I realized I wanted to focus on helping clients reduce their pain I also realized that I needed to look outside of a traditional medicine setting. I needed to start my own business to build the experience I knew people deserved.

How long have you been in business? I began my massage career as an independent contractor in 2007. In 2011, I opened my own practice.

What is your favorite thing about being a business owner in Madison? Madison is a beautiful community of curious and highly educated individuals. Meeting other women in business who are also successfully living their dreams has been quite powerful. People in Madison support small local businesses and help us succeed by choosing local versus corporate.

What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew? At Unfurl we provide a healing space to help clients release pain, but also help clients grow into their own personal wellness. Many people do not have the time or the knowledge of how to “get in” their bodies. Bodywork is an amazing way to help people become more sensitive to their physical and emotional selves. We love to facilitate this process and continue growing and learning to find new ways to help people achieve what they want and need wherever they are on their wellness journey.

What is your favorite aspect of your business so far? Connecting and learning about our clients. I feel privileged to be let into each and every client’s life and world as we work together to discover areas of discomfort, release those areas, and re-educate the body to open into a new healthy pattern.

What is your favorite item/service you offer? Our work at Unfurl is specific to each client’s needs in that moment. We call all of it “bodywork” or “massage” and use each session to personalize our skills to meet our client’s need.

What is your favorite quote? “Be the change you want to see in the world.” -Ghandi

How did you end up in Madison? I moved to Madison in 2008 to study Eastern bodywork at East West Healing Arts Institute.

Tell me why you love Madison. The combination of nature and people. I feel lucky to live in a beautiful small town, with the conveniences and luxuries of a big city. There is water and natural beauty everywhere, and the people here seem to love, appreciate, and protect that. I have met so many amazing people in my 11 years here, I feel confident saying that Madison has something to offer for everyone.

What book are you currently reading? For fun: Wildwood by Meloy Ellis. For study: Bhagavad Gita translated by Stephen Mitchell

What’s your favorite area festival? I don’t really have a favorite festival. For me, festivities occur in nature. I deeply treasure Devil’s Lake State Park. It is my home away from home.

I love living in Madison and make the most of all it has to offer. In addition to socializing in the incredible food scene (I’m a true foodie!), I enjoy theatre, music, opera, kayaking, camping, and making day trips to experience Madison’s fantastic outlying communities. My long background in residential property management, paired with a formal education in psychology, inspired me to merge those experiences and become a real estate agent. Now I put those skills to work for you, fulfilling my inherent desire to help people, earn their trust, and advocate for their best interests. It all starts with the opportunity to hear about your dreams, concerns, and what’s important to you. So, let’s talk about your real estate goals. I look forward to listening to you.
